Excellent!A great collection of essays if you want to know how the legend of Dr. Faustus from a literary and cultural standpoint. I have to say the best essay is the second one, in which a DC lawer weighs the testimony of Sernus Zeitblom, the narrator of Dr. Faustus, by Thomas Mann. If want to do a study of Dr. Faustus and are looking for bibliography, I recommend this book highly!

The Dream Horse
Published in Paperback by Harper Mass Market Paperbacks (June, 1993)
Average review score:

The Dream HorseMy father bought me this book when I was 11 and now that I am 18 I decided to read it again. The book is as sweet and charming as it was when I first read it in 6th grade. The story is about a sophomore in high school, Miranda, who has recently moved to the U.S. from Europe. Her sister Joey wanted to spend her senior year in the United States and graduate from a real American High School so they are living with their grandmother in Virginia for the year. All Miranda has ever wanted is a horse of her own. Her parents agree that for the 9 months that she will be in Virginia she can buy a horse for $300. At that price the only horse she can find is Drummer, an ugly, well formed jumper. Miranda looks beyong Drummer's ugly exterior and finds in him a kindred spirit. Drummer's previous owner Gray is at first resentful of Miranda for having to give up his horse but later becomes important in Miranda's life as he helps her train Drummer for the Claybourne Cup.
This story is wonderful in what it is: a sweet story of making choices, falling in love, and looking beneath the surface. The writing is very well done and the characters are believable. I only wish Virginia Campbell Scott had written more stories.

Dry Rot in the Ivory Tower
Published in Textbook Binding by University Press of America (19 July, 2000)
Average review score:

The Ivory Tower needs to listenDry Rot in the Ivory Tower is described in the foreward as a "angry call to arms". It is that, and much more. Through a series of vignettes describing life at the fictional "Omnibus University", John Campbell (former professor, dean and university president) describes the light and the dark that exists at universities throughout the country. The stories, though fictional, have a ring of truth to them that makes one suspect that the only fiction is the names, which have been changed to protect the guilty (and the occasional innocent as well; see the vignette about the Heisman Trophy winner which seems to be a barely disguised story about Barry Sanders). Nobody in the university, from governing boards, to administrators, faculty, alumni, and even a few greedy students, escapes unscathed. Thoughout the book, the author's love for the university comes through loudly and clearly, even as that love is challenged by the unending bureaucracy, personal agendas and political vendettas that, unfortunately, exist in universities. If you also love the ideal of the university, this book will make you angry. Your anger will be aimed at those who, by their actions and attitudes, prevent universities from accomplishing as much as they should. Additionally, some of your anger will be with yourself, for failing to do more to help.

Easy-To-Make Bird Feeders for Woodworkers
Published in Paperback by Dover Pubns (May, 1989)
Average review score:

More Than Just Feeder PlansScott D. Campbell has put a plethora of information in this concise book detailing feeding birds. He has included not only plans for the construction of feeders, but information on how to attract various species of birds by offering their favorite meals in an attractive format.
There are clear drawings, dimensions and materials lists for all the projects. Basic information regarding construction techniques with a variety of materials are detailed. He even includes some "squirrel proof" designs.
There are charts detailing what type of common and not-so-common feeds many different species eat and how many species are attracted by each feed. He has also depicted breed specific feeders. How to locate, mount and stock your completed projects is also detailed.
Beginner or not, if you are looking for a manual to make simple feeders and attract birds with them, this is the only book you'll need. Mr. Campbell has once again set the standard for bird lover's projects.
This tiny book fits nicely into a leather cover so you can keep it in your golf bag.
"There can be few things more irritating, and at times even infuritating, for a golfer than to find his game ruined by thougtless and ignorant behavior by other players on the course."
Simple things like picking up your broken tee sound logical, but then again there are still people who toss trash from their cars. So, you just never know.
Very Matter-of-Fact style. This is just what
is expected.
Letting faster players move ahead of your group, being aware of time-saving-tips (like removing gloves while walking) will keep the game moving smoothly along.
The section on taking care of the course was informative. Simple things like raking away footprints helps the next golfer if their golf ball happens to rest in the exact spot where you just walked.
Helpful tips like protecting your set of golf clubs while travelling abroad and taking the proper clothes for various
weather conditions helps to protect you and your
investment.
